Dear Sir/Madam:
Thank you for your attention. This is in regards to your online edition article today Republicans Rev up for Economic Debate
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119154966904949270.html?mod=googlenews_wsj
In your article the writer makes a link between high-skilled workers and illegal aliens by talking about the two groups in the same paragraph, thus conveying to the average reader that the two are connected, and/or that high-skilled workers are illegal yet must be retained
This is misleading in extreme. High-skilled workers are in the U.S. on Legal visas that are sponsored by their employers. These visas are issued to limited numbers of foreigners in areas where no American workers have been found. These legal workers have to go through grueling government labor certifications and extreme waits and red tape just to perform their work, which usually includes U.S. patents and successful start-ups. I urge you to make a correction or an errata to this article which is probably an honest mistake, but which is very unfair, misleading and just plain untrue. Thank you once more.
Sincerely:

Do you mean 30 credits with 3 year degree from India to complete MS?
$15K for 30 credits means $500 for 1 credit?
ISU - Iowa State University; Not from India. Yes, $15K for a total of 30 credits. Aprx 3 credits per subject => total 10 subjects. One of them must be a project, so total of 9 subjects ( with 3 credits each).

I am surprised some friends thought Ed should mention our agenda in an article which is talking about how to keep & increase the vote of the GOP.
Even if every member of IV is given a green card this afternoon, none would be able to vote in 5 years, unless you are in the military. We have less connection to the citizens in the United States than the undocumented workers. Latino citizens vote for more Latinos, but some Chinese citizens may think there are too many Chinese in the United States already!
In one word, none of us can vote in 5 years. Neither can we persuade the citizens we know.
Then, why ED should mention high-skilled worker in an article for VOTE anyway?

Thankyou very much for your support, folks!!!!. Just a reminder, if you pay by Paypal or Credit Card 4-5% of your contribution goes out as transaction fees. So Check is the best payment method, especially when you're contributing more than $100.
------------------------------------------
Personal Check in Mail: You can send us a physical check. Since there is no transaction fee involved, this is our most preferred method. Most banks now provide a feature called BillPay by which you can send a check to anyone directly from your Bank's website free of cost. Make the checks payable to Immigration Voice and send it to the following address.
Immigration Voice
PO Box 114
Dayton, NJ - 08810
I just PayPaled $300 yesterday. Please, keep all of us PBEC and DOL victims in mind as well. We need your help!!

I agree .. again :) .. that companies may not be too excited about the employees taking off for a few hours.
Can't we have something potent:
Say we have a page on IV that lists all the members with names, GC applied on, wait time to date, company working for. Accompanied by any info that makes this look authentic like SRC number .. or something (need not be displayed, but can be in database).
We could then get some graphs and statistics based on these figures and pass it on to lawmakers, other people who need to be influenced.
This way we have all teh facts .. rather than arbitrary data like:
"Today the system takes anywhere between 6-12 years to grant Green cards to some of the best and brightest of the world who have chosen America as their future home."

It shows that the interpretation of law is not same everywhere.
some people get it easily and some dont. Bridgeport, CT DMV is very crowded most of the time and tough to get things done. There are a lot of people of a kind that come there and it is tough. you must try Westport etc kind of areas next time.
yes, there was so much difference between Bridgeport and Hamden. Eventually I got it for 5 years though I had just 1 year extension on my H1b. I am now in NYC and have to get NY license and just to play it safe , am planning to get the license when I get my h1b 3 year extension which will be applied sometime beginning next year.

I diagree with you...Indian film Industry have very good directors, They are no way inferior to Hollywood. Firstly you can't compre them with Hollywood because they have differen audiances...Hollywood have money power so their movies are technically better, but as far as quality of movies Indian film industry is very good...It caters to all tastes. There are Shyam Benegal, Basu Chaterjee, Govind Nihlani for people who like simple senseful movies there are Karan Johar, Yash Chopra, Mani Ratnam for expensive, hip hop movies. There's RGV, Hirani, Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra for different story based movies. In my opinion caters to wide variety you need to pick up by your taste...None of the Amitabh Bachans did any thing for slums,Danny Boyle Made a very good movie.I think the fact is Rehman is a prodigy no doubt about that, he makes very good music we all know that.As compared to Hollywood directors Bollywood directors are subpar with the exception of very few good ones. Movie business is controlled in India by few families, what ever the movies they make rest of the people will watch it.I dont want to open the bollywood can of worms.Movie directors in India are usually sons of Bollywood actors or some one related to Bollywood.
I am sure none of the Bollywood directors would ever be able to make good movies, they dont have a global outlook, neither the needed juice. usually Bollywood directors are some low key high school drop outs who have connections with mafia.
If some one who is reallly talented is not going to make it in Bollywood,Southern Film industry is even worse.

I think we should start a Employer Hall of shame and nominate employers who are either cheating the employees or the Immigration system.
This will help future employees and the immigration community as whole.
I am not sure if there are any legal implication to starting something on IV on this
What a jerk your desi employer is. It makes me so angry that these scumbags are getting away doing these things.
First things first - deliver the baby. Take some of the suggestions given here by other members regarding insurance.
Once all this is done sue the hell out of your desi employer. There really isn't anything (I guess) you can do about your client. But you can definitely take your desi employer to court for terminating your employment. These guys deserve to pay a hefty fine and lose their business license!

It is estimated that approximately 500K+ (yes 500K) I-485 applications under skilled worker category were filed between July 2nd and August 17th 2007. Most of these applications were from people of India and China.
The date is June 1st. Also, there were 1M+ applications before June 1st,
Employment Based Immigration reforms do not find enough support on the senate floors (Failure of SKIL, STEM etc Bills). As a matter of fact, it does not even get enough support to make it debatable, let alone final voting on the bills.
IV grassroot effort (flower campaign and SJ rally) were a very important reason for retraction of July Visa Bulletin.

Does it mean they would stop processing I140 premium applications which have already been sent. My I140 was pending for 6 months and I changed it for premium after the dates became current, it was sent by my lawyer this Monday (25th) and received by USCIS on 26th. Does this mean it will not be processed or does this mean they will not accept any premium processing applications from July 2nd.
Yours will be processed as you have already submitted. You should receive your decision in the next week. When you do, please let us know that it is approved :)

I agree.
I lived in Canada for a year. I also worked in my own country before coming to the US. At least in my experience and from talking to dozens of friends in Canada, my home country offers more potential for revenue than Canada. You will see it when you move there.
I will never forget when I landed in Canada in Toronto back in 1998, I met a girl at the airport and many at the Hostelling International who told me lots of stories on why I should go to the US instead. That particular girl was living in the US illegally.
I am sorry to tell you that leaving the US and going to Canada may not be a solid plan B.
Why don't you start a similar forum for "going back to
India" ? I hate to burst your "bubble of hope" but Canadian population and job market is limited and the opportunities for professionals like us are limited. Why not consider going back to India and taking up some of the lucrative opportunities in middle management in the IT industry.
The Indian economy is booming and the salaries are excellent. You just need to make some adjustments with quality of life (pollution, traffic). Atleast its better than going to Canada, living in limbo while looking for suitable jobs for a long-time, sometimes even doing odd jobs just to make ends meet. I hate our Indian mentality that "every place in the world is better than our own country". Give me a break guys.
My plan of action is very clear: Go back to India and live there happily. If there are other opportunities in US then come back.
Cheers.

I have lived in Nevada before. I think in that state and many other western states (where guns laws are more liberal) you have to have passport, I-94 and utility bills proving you have lived in NV for 6 months. That's it. You don't need hunting license to get a gun license.
Here is the biggest irony:
IN order to own a gun, FBI needs only 2 days to check your background.
IN order to get 485 approved, FBI takes months or years to do a background check.
I guess green-card is a more lethal weapon than a handgun.
There are federal firearm laws and then there are local (state) firearm laws.
State laws can be more restrictive than federal laws (atleast when it comes to firearms), but never less restrictive.
Federal law states that non-immigrants (even AOS) are prohibited from owning firearms unless they fall under one of 4 exceptions, the easiest one being the hunting license exception.
If you have a valid hunting license, issued anywhere in the United States (you could live in NV and have a hunting license from NY) you are okay on the Federal level.
After you have met that exception, you have to check and see if your state has additional restrictions.
Some states don't discriminate between citizens/non citizens when it comes to firearms, some do.
e.g. in MA, non-citizens (even GC holders) are only allowed to own non large capacity rifles and shotguns, which means no handguns, and no large capacity rifles (ARs, AKs and the like).
Logiclife, yes, there are some cases where a non-immigrant accidentally manages to bypass the hunting license requirement. This can happen in states which issue their own non-citizen permits. The applicant gets the 'non-citizen' permit and thinks that he/she has done their part and is now okay to purchase/possess a firearm. This is somewhat of a loophole that every non-immigrant buyer should be wary of and absolutely avoid. Sometimes the NICS background people can also approve the transaction without realizing the non-immigrant situation, but that doesn't mean its okay, I have confirmed this with the ATF on the phone.
Getting a hunting license is not difficult though, passing a simple hunter safety course is all that is required.
That being said, I am very pleased to find responsible and safe firearms enthusiasts on this forum.
And the person that asked the OP if he was inquiring about firearm laws because he wanted to kill someone, I hope you were joking. If you weren't, your ignorance disgusts me.
