That article contains some errors. Shipping rates, for instance, are about the same as they were in 2008 and similar to 2002 so that is a red herring.
I would also question you as to why you think that China is an enemy? They appear to be more like a partner in a symbiotic relationship. You need each other.

YOU WILL GET DIFFERENT IMAGES IF YOU USE A 200mm EF Lens on a 7D (APS-C) and a 200mm EF-S lens on that same camera due to the FOVCF
Go and try it and come back...

Canon EF-S lenses are designed specifically for the 1.6x FOVCF DSLR bodies but still require the same 1.6x crop factor to be applied as the standard Canon EF Lenses to get the equivalent field of view comparison. Again, this is because the physical focal length of the lens is the same, regardless of which camera it’s mounted on.
Which, once again, agrees with me.

I agree with most of what you say, except.... I don't get the "Shoot only Full Manual" advice that is heard here and in other places.

Well shooting manual works for what I do. I doubt any sports photographers use anything other than Aperture Priority mode I would think.
I should add that I've done my fair share of large-format work. Doesn't get more manual than that! And I certainly pop back into manual on occasion.
I was going to say that for learning, people should use Manual, but I think that can really drive new photographers away. It's too much to keep in mind when you don't have a good workflow, and then it's frustrating to get so many bad shots. I like telling people to concentrate on one thing, then when that's comfortable move to another aspect (so DoF, then Shutter Speeds - generally.) Maybe full Manual when you've gotten past the big 'N' (for New Shooter) sticker on the camera bag until you're so comfortable with the camera that you can use Av & Tv efficiently and productively.
But never Auto, well not usually.... Though I do tend to leave the camera on Auto when it's in the bag so that if the UFO lands in front of me all I have to do is turn the thing on and point and snap. :)

All that matters is what games you like. Halo, Gears? Get a 360. inFamous, LBP? Get a ps3.
The 360 has tons more shooters, but the ps3 has it beat in variety, imo. With titles like the aforementioned inFamous, LBP, as well as The Last Guardian, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, etc theres a lot more variety than the 360 can offer. Of course none of that matters if you like what the 360 has more.

Does push-mail actually work this time? In SLS it is supported, but not with an iPhone. iPhone push thus far only works with Exchange, Google or MobileMe.

I think that Apple is doing a much better effort at protecting its assets. Keep in mind what happened a certain software giant (who's name will be omitted but is known for making a poor rip-off of the Mac operating system) got away with stealing from Apple...:rolleyes:

I've never had any issues with the latest updates, so I don't really care with 10.4.8...but I wish Safari could be less memory-hungry, or use less virtual memory...that's all.Me too. And I wish Safari had a "Sure you want to quit?" dialog box for those times when we accidentally do a Command + Q in the dark when we thought we were doing a switch application Command + Tab.
Glad to hear it's in Leopard. But having to wait for an entirely new system version to get a little helpful dialog box in one little application seems like an expensive unnecessary delay.

"I thought it was smurf coins, mommy - not real money." ********, I would abuse the system. My sister racked up a $350 phone bill the first month she had a phone - in sixth grade. She knew she only had 100 txts back then, that didn't stop her from Txting. Point is, kids are going to download **** when they can, regardless of how many notifications say "warning! hmm, what are the chances of there being prototype iphones linked to tmobile and verizon's networks existing in the 'wild'? i'm assuming that while websites such as MR can tell what kind of device (ie, ipad, imac,etc) is connecting to their servers, there isn't a way a to tell which network it's connecting from (ie, att, verizon, comcast)..?

I believe he's referring to headsets that don't have the audio in and out jack combined into one (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2036282). The line-in port on Macs does not have any power to support a microphone. This is why the Griffin iMic exists.
Since the Mic port turned into Line-In, there hasn't been any power on the port, requiring a powered input or amp. However, on the Headset jacks that support the iPhone mic on them, do have a built-in mic, even on the MacBook, but only when using the 3rd sleeve that the iPhone mic cable has.

I am amazed to recently discover Mac owners pay more on average to keep the most current OS running on their box, even though OS X is cheaper (by about $70) than comparative Windows releases.
Spending $400 on Vista Ultimate Edition makes up the difference. :) Although the operative phrase here is "most current OS running on their box"--the most current Windows is six years old, so if people want to complain that it costs more money to keep up with modern OS updates than it does to have no major OS updates at all for over half a decade, that's not exactly something I consider a negative.

Why are some people here so outraged that there weren't any MBP updates? Remember: this is a photographer's event.
Not all of Apple's releases need to be a fanfare event. Remember a couple years ago when they said they were trying to get away from that? Yes. So we'll see new MBPs and maybe MBs soon enough. Maybe "next Tuesday" as you are all so fond of saying.

I'm getting a really intrusive Head and Shoulders ad banner at the top of the page. Whenever your mouse pointer hovers above the banner, the banner expands, and a video automatically starts playing. This can happen quite easily when you go to click on another browser tab in Firefox/Safari/Chrome/etc.

This task switcher is nice but probably Apple used the icons (option 2 or 2222?) because they're more recognizable than some little screenshot to decide which app to open.

I chose Verizon for my iPad 2, but I have AT&T for my iPhone 4. I figured that would give me the best of both worlds. I haven't had any issues with my iPhone 4 service, but I think Verizon is more reliable on the whole. And, for what I do on my iPad 2, Verizon speeds are good for me.

I use Windows 7 at work and recently just built myself a new workstation. Total price including shipping with licenses for Windows 7 Business and Office 2010 was under $850 for a very good performing machine that does everything I need it to do (from Photoshop to AutoCAD) with ease. Right now I've got it totally loaded down and am using 7GB out of 8GB of RAM, and it's ticking along just happily.
I can't honestly say that I would be any more productive by using OS X, and I certainly don't go about my day missing anything in the OS.
Frankly I think it's all fine and good if you want to buy a Mac, but don't fool yourself into thinking that there aren't perfectly good and equally functional options out there for less money. I think the comparison of computers to cars is a stupid one. The difference between a Audi S4 and a Civic is a measurable, but I don't think that is a fair comparison. A more accurate example would be two Civics with equivalent engines and transmissions, only one has upgraded paint, rims, headlamps and leather upholstery while the other is base trim.
Apple serves a growing niche market of high end computers and without a doubt bests nearly every competitor with their excellent industrial design, and a price that reflects the engineering, materials, and slave labor craftsmanship.
But not everyone with a home stereo needs or wants to spend thousands of dollars on Krell mono block amplifiers when what ever comes in their home theater in a box is sufficient for their needs, and they don't want the cool design and minute performance increases.

Just a point to remember in this thread. While fuel prices are much more expensive in Europe, their wages are more significant than ours in the US as well. Minimum wage in the US is currently at 7.25/hour, or roughly 1160/month based on 4 weeks of 40 hours per. This alone can explain some of the gas prices being so high outside of the US.
The minimum wage in the UK is a little over 9.50/hour USD making a monthly, min. wage of approx. 1615.00/month. In the Netherlands it is 11.54/hour USD at 1846/month. 11.92/hour USD (1907/month) in Germany, and 15.50/hour USD (2480/month) in Australia. And in France it is 12.58/hour USD or 2012/month.
You can also factor in holiday time (vacation time to us yanks) and way more paid holidays (as in actual Holidays to us yanks) with the salary as benefits.
