Unless the country cap is removed from EB immigration - things will not change for folks from India.
Have you noticed that when it comes to giving amnesty, there is always a special clause that exempts illegals from country caps? Ever wonder why?
Coz the illegals are already HERE and form a GREAT voter base. These are people who are not very educated (most barely have any education), they band together and can be easily influenced. That makes them an EXCELLENT source of future votes. Educated folks like us can see through the nonsense that politicians promise. Also it is a simple numbers game: LESS than 1 million legal immigrants v/s 13 million Illegal immigrants.
Do we still wonder why?

In my opinion you should be OK.
I think since you have filed I-485 you are in adjustee status so you need not even be working for the company that filed your GC.
Since your co. got acquired the new co. will have to do a H1 transfer and if USCIS raises any RFE regarding your I-485 app then the new co. can respond on behalf of the old co. with a letter saying that they have acquired the original filer co.
If you get called for an interview at the time of GC approval then again you can take a letter of job offer from the new co. along with the letter of acquisition and you should be OK.

I do not think that you have any issues to work on W2 with an end client or with any other consulting company. Since you have completed six months period with your present employer, who supported to file GC , from the date filing I 485, there should not be any issues at all. Also filing AC21 is optional. If you are on bench your first option should be to find a project ASAP.
Why do you do not want to file AC21, do you have any apprhencion or any specific reason ?

As i understand for labor there are only 2 centers right ? one is the atlanta processing center and the other is chicago processing center. Atlanta processing center caters to the state in which my employer has registered his company so i believe he must have sent my application to this processing center only.

1. that he can transfer his H1b to a company B and get 3 yr ext.
2. Again in the 8th or 9th year, can he move to another company C and get a 3 ext (upto 12th year).
So can one get infinite 3 yr extenstions just because once upon a time he/she had an approved I 140 from one of his ex-employers (and not his immediate previous emplyer). :)

Here is what you get when you apply for student loans without GC/US Citizenship:
1. Trust loans (called Stafford loans also).
2. Need US Citizen co-signor. A co-signor with good credit scores helps in keeping the interest rates down.
3. Even with a US Citizen co-signor with good credit score, the interest rates are usually way higher that what a GC holder gets.
4. If you have more than one loan (every year/semester of college corresponds to a loan, though you may not have to go through the paper work formalities from the second year/semester to get the loan), you are NOT allowed to consolidate your loans during payoff. Consolidation helps bring down the monthly payment amount when the time comes to repay the loans.
5. Variable interest rates. Looking at the past few years, interest rates have never dropped, only moved north. To give you an idea it could be anywhere between 15 to 18% now to begin with.
In a nutshell, student loan is a very costly affair if you do not have GC/US Citizenship. The good thing is, there are no pre-payment penalties.

I just wanted to get some input from the veterans here who have started a business in partnership while they have been waiting for the coveted green card.
What kind of legal paperwork does it take to start a business? I would think as long as you don't work for the business it should be ok? If you can own part of a corporation (stocks), you can be a partner in a business?

Hi, Congratulations :) When our son was born, we were in a similar predicament. We had to travel to India after about 60 days. This was the sequence of events..we got the birth certificate after 10 days, SSN after about 25 days. Applied for passport, paid extra for expedited service and got it in less than a week. Went to the indian embassy and person, explained the situation and the got the visa in about 2 days..
Afterwards i found out that the PIO involves less paperwork :) but i dont know how long that will take ...

I can't help but notice that progress at TSC.
They were processing July 16, 2007 2 - 3 months back.
One fine day, they updated dates saying that they processed till June 16, 2007. (-ve by a month)
Last month, they made progress till June 23, 2007.
Since last month, they made a progress of one day - June 24, 2007.
Is this correct? or I am a brain dead person? unable to understand CIS processing dates, particulary going backwards really baffles me.:(
